| Before
coming back home, we want to bring you with us around the city of Zante
suggesting you some precious addresses in order to make shopping.
From the architectural point of view
the earthquake that upset the island in 1953 has saved really few buildings,
so let’s start from these!
At the end of the seafront there is the large Solomos square, whose name
derives from a very famous poet of the island.
Next to the square there is San Nicholas
of the Mole that is one of the more ancient churches of the
island that still keeps the liturgical ornaments of Saint Dionysios, the
island protector. Little more ahead we can visit San Marco square, a picturesque
small square built by the Venetian during their occupation. Here there
is the only catholic church
of Zante.
Near San Marco square we suggest you an interesting visit to the Byzantine
museum, to the museum of Solomos and Kalvos, the two most famous poets
of Zante island and to the old house of Roma family.

From San Marco square
starts Roma street, a long pedestrian old paved road, full of every kind
of stores with gifts for any pocket. It will be amusing and relaxing to
walk up and down between several traditional workshops and small shops.
After visiting some cultural places of the town and after some shopping,
we want to bring you to the small jewel of the city of Zante: Bochali.
Come back to your car,
then
go the end of the city of Zakynthos holding the sea on your right and
take the road that on your left goes up through the city taking you to
the higher village of Bòchali.
Bochali is a small village of few inhabitants, placed just above Zakynthos
town.
From here there is a stunning view and you can admire in the same time
all the city, Argasi, the coasts of the Peloponnese and far away the bay
of Laganas.
In Bochali you can
visit also the ruins of the ancient Venetian
castle that is the old fortification of the town. After the
earthquake of 1953 is remained very little, but the pine forest all around
is wonderful and the panorama is worth alone the paltry price of the ticket.

Where to eat in Zante town
Near the city
of Zante there are many restaurants, but often are too much tourist; we
want to suggest you some of them a little bit hidden and not so easy to
find but exquisite and known mainly from local inhabitants.
MALANOS
Tavern - ZANTE
At "Malanos Tavern" for dinner you can find each kind of meat
cooked on bbq, but at lunch time there is a great choice of special food.
You will taste stuffed rabbit, lamb prepared on the live coal, soufflè
of tortellini and a lot more.
Malanos restaurant is placed near the port where the ferries arrive, not
far beyond the bridge. If you ask to a Greek person he will give you for
sure an indication.
AKROTIRI
Tavern - AKROTIRI
Another restaurant that we suggest you is placed in Akrotiri, along the
coastal road that from the city of Zante goes to Tsilivi. The place where
it is located gives the name to the restaurant. "Akrotiri Tavern"
offers high quality cuisine and economic prices. Delicious all the appetizers
and exquisite the pork cooked on the spit.
Shopping in Zante town
I
ZAKYNTHOS - TRADITIONAL SWEET
Very close to Solomos square (in front of the road with many cashpoint
machine) there is Venizelou street, where we advise you to make a visit
to the shop called "I
Zakynthos".
This is the most ancient workshop in the island for traditional products
of Zante, where you will have the opportunity to buy particular wines
and traditional sweets.
GOLD
M - GOLD AND JEWELS
If you take Roma street from Saint Marco square, you will find the "Gold
M" or "Michalopoulos" on your right, just at the
end of the road.
We suggest you this shop because it is the only official retailer in Zante
for the most famous watches and its prices are clearly cheaper than in
the other European countries.
O
IORGOS - FISHING & DIVING SHOP
Finally we suggest to all those who love fishing and diving the most equipped
store of the island of Zante.
The shop is called "O
Iorgos" and it is on the seafront, exactly between the two
opposite extremities of the port.
