TownsIn the north of
the island there are
many small
towns that haven’t been spoiled by the passing of time and tourism.
Examples of the traditional town consisting of small houses all around a
church are Kampi where you can admire the largest cement cross of all Greece;
Agios Leon, Exo Chora from where you leave to see the Venetian tower, Maries
and Anafonitria that host two monasteries, Saint George of the Rocks and
the one of the Anafonitria Holy Mother.
All those towns in winter live on agriculture and breeding, whereas in summer
they sell handmade handcraft products and opening taverns for the tourist
held by local families.
BeachThose towns are all in the inland and they do not have beaches but they
are the starting point to reach the most beautiful fiords of the island
through asphalted and non- asphalted roads.
How
to move
Here you can not rent
motorbikes or cars since they do not have tourist facilities.
There are few daily buses to the main town and another way to get
there, if you do not have your own car, is the taxi.
Where
to lodgeIt is difficult
to find a place to spend the night but it is not impossible, some local
habitants rent rooms but there are no hotels or big tourist infrastructures.
Shops
There are some
snack bars and mini markets for local people in addition to the stalls
selling local products such as olive oil, honey, carpets, table clothes
and souvenirs.
Amusement
This is a very
quiet area and at night you have the possibility to taste typical dishes
in the local taverns but there aren’t other places where to go after
dinner to enjoy oneself.
PORTO LIMNIONAS TAVERN
"Porto Limnionas Tavern" is a familiar restaurant always open both for lunch and dinner without afternoon closing. Having your meal served under the pine trees with Porto Limniona bay placed just in front of you will be an experience you’ll tell to your friends.
Truly exquisite the squids cooked on BBQ and the zucchini meatballs!
