Keri Caves and Marathonissi
This itinerary will permit you to discover one of the most evocative places of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos.Limni Kerì area is situated in the south-west part of the island and here there are a lot of things to do and to see, so... do not wake up too late!
From Zante town follow the main road that leads in Laganas direction and continue straight; after the area of Lithakia the road goes up and gives you a marvellous view over the bay of Limni Kerì, then it comes down to arrive directly to the beach.
Limni Keri is a small village where there are many attractions; for the morning we suggest you to take a boat for rent and to go in complete autonomy to discover the near islet Marathonissi that’s an important nestling cove of the loggerhead turtles.

Marathonissi is surrounded by the most clear sea water and offers two different beautiful beaches; one consists on white small rocks and has a large and wide cave; the other is a thin sandy bay, like Carribean!

Then with your boat you can leave this islet in order to pass Marathia cape to admire the wonderful Keri Caves, where you can enter with your boat.
Instead of this you can simply find a lonely small beach around Limni Keri’s cape where to relax yourselves in a total privacy.
A daily trip with your own boat will be a truly fascinating experience.
You will have the opportunity to visit places accessible only by the sea, to dive with your friends into clear waters and to relax on beaches that also in August are nearly desert.
After going back with your boat to Limni Keri you can decide to spend the rest of the day in this beach or take the car and go in the secluded beach of Cape Marathia or to have a scuba diving to see the turtles.
Half an hour before the sunset, you can't miss to go up to the old mountain village of Keri.
This is a picturesque village where the time seems to be stopped in an ancient age and, passed Keri town, the road will lead you to the lighthouse.

Kerì's lighthouse is located on a small and waste plateau and at the sunset hundreds of persons come here every day to admire the most colorful sunset of their life.
On your right there is a small path.....just follow it in order to see the breathtaking bay placed below.
Black lake
In order to reach this lake you need a boat or a dinghy.

If you manage to find this inlet you have to leave someone taking care of the dinghy, go down and walk about 10 metres inside the cave.
There you’ll notice that there will be just water.
Without light in this area the water looks black and doesn’t invite to dive; for the more courageous that want to swim they will realize that the lake isn’t that small after all and looking underwater you can see the sunlight entering from under the rock making light games in the water.
Take a torch with you if you want to see something!!!
